Area: 860-sq-km/86,000 ha

Established In: 1952 as a sanctuary.

Location: 50-km From Warangal, Andhra Pradesh

Description:

Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary is a manmade lake, completed in 1213 AD by the Kakatiyas. The sanctuary is spread over 860-sq-km consisting of a large plateau surrounded by low hills. The environment and the Pakhal Lake form the core area of the sanctuary. The vegetation consists of tropical dry deciduous mixed forests, bamboo and mixed teak forests.

Its natural scenic beauty and landscape is extremely beautiful and captivating, which makes this place worth visiting. This sanctuary consists of a large plateau surrounded with low hills. The Pakhal Lake and its environs form the core area. Altitude ranges from 280-300 ft.

By Rail Nearest railway station is at Warangal
By Road: It is located on Narsampet-Warangal division, which is at a distance of 50-km from Warangal. Pakhal is 130-km by road from Hyderabad. It is well connected by road.

Temperature:

The temperature in this area ranges from 15 -45oC. Average annual rainfall 1,225mm

Flora:

Tropical deciduous forests with a few evergreen species such as Aegle marmelos and Mallotus philippensis. The deciduous trees, forming the chief components of the forest are Adina cordifolia, Bombax ceiba, Bridelia retusa, Cleistanthus collinus, Cochlospermum religiosum, Emblica officinalis, Dalbergia latifolia, Flacourtia indica, Garuga pinnata, There are also many climbers, woody herbs and shrubs and monsoon plants. Extensive grasslands occur near the lake.

Fauna Leopard, sambar, nilgai, sloth bear, chital, chowsingha (four-horned antelope) , chinkara (mountain gazelle), blackbuck, wild boar. Large concentration of migratory waterfowls and waders arrive at the lake between November and March.

Description

Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the oldest sanctuaries of Andhra Pradesh established in 1953. It is spread at a distance of 806 sq. km. in Warangal district. It is located at a distance of 90 km. from Warangal and 250 km. from Hyderabad.

This place was declared as a sanctuary by the erstwhile Hyderabad Government due to its rich bio-diversity. The forest includes southern tropical dry deciduous type of teak and its associates like Thiruman, Maddi, Bamboo etc., while the fauna includes several endangered animals like Tiger, Sloth Bear, Four Horned Antelope, Chinkara, Black Buck etc.

Climate

The climate is usually hot round the year. The temperature often reaches 43 0 C during summer. Rainfall is from the Southwest Monsoon. Annual average rainfall is about 1000 mm.
Winters are mild.

Historical Importance


The sanctuary area is rich with tree fossils in the Sarvai area and caves, stone-age tools were found near Damarvai which are believed to be 1 Million year old.

IMPORTANCE:

The Vana Vignan Kendra is a Park, setup by the Forest Department with the help of District Administration in order to bring the nature with its wilderness intact to the door-steps of the citizens of the warangal Town Spread over an area of around 50 acres, it is a place of relief and recreation to the public and a right place to educate the younger generation about nature by bringing them in close contact with it. Every day more than 500 people visit this park and the number doubles douring festivals and public holidays.

LOCATION:

The Vana Vignan Kendra is located on the hunter road in Warangal city and is well connected by the city bus service.

PRESENT STATUS:

The Vana Vignan Kendra is being maintained by Forest Department who look after the feeding and upkeep of animals and the general maintenance of the place. The animals, which are available in the centre, are spotted dears, neelgal, sambhar, crocodiles, rabbits, tortoises and sloth bear. The birds include peacock, pheasans, lovebirds, pigeons, ring doves an ducks.

An Environment Education Centre has also been setup for educating public about the nature and includes a small library, a museum and an auditorium.

IMPROVEMENTS REQUIRED:

The Environment Education Centre needs to be improved by placing more items of public interest and awarness.
The internal roads and bridges of the park need to be improved.
The lighting arrangements of the park also need to be improved to attract the public in the evening time.
Landscaping needs be done in the area around the EEc to make the place more attractive.
Playing equipment of the children also need to be improved.

 

Musical garden Warangal

IMPORTANCE:

Musical Garden is a beautifully laid garden in an area of 15 acres adjacent to Bhadrakali tank. The main attractoin of this garden is a magnificent music fountain operated through a computer in which a number of colourful lights dance to the tune of music, with a huge rock having an artificial water fall in the background. The garden is beautifully landscaped and has an artificial lake in which boating facility is available. Every day hundreds of people visiting this garden and a special show of the musical fountain is arranged daily at 7-00 pm.

The musical garden is centrally located in Warangal city and is well connected by frequent city bus service.

The garden can be extended further by adding more thenes to it.
